Susan Gietka

This shoot was a collaboration effort that focused on exploring the darker side of the bohemian trend. Our team consisted of myself along with:

  • 3 of my team members who are excellent aspiring makeup artists: Caitlin Reistle, Nicholette Voci and Vicotria Abiva,
  • A stylist who manages our local Plato's Closet (and who also happens to be a few of the girls' dance teacher), Lexxi Falisi, and
  • A jewelry designer - Ann McGann - who is the owner of Hot Chick Designs.

I gave the 3 makeup artists an opportunity to create a look on their fellow models (as well as themselves) that they would not necessarily create on an actual client.

Everyone involved wanted to be sure that this shoot had a high fashion/editorial vibe. For my part I wanted to showcase these looks by photographing in full direct sun, however about halfway through the shoot the clouds started to roll in.

Many of the clothes shown were obtained from Plato's Closet or my own style closet, and most of the pieces are either Free People or Nasty Gal. All of the jewelry is from Hot Chick Designs.

"Don't tell a girl with fire in her veins and hurricane bones what she should and shouldn't do. In the blink of an eye she will shatter that ridiculous cage you attempt to build around her beautiful bohemian spirit." - Melody Lee
